Low-maintenance yards that look better than lawns

THE WHY

Your yard can be beautiful, easier to maintain, and alive with wildlife.

Most lawns demand constant mowing, watering, weeding, fertilizing, and give very little back.

A well-designed natural landscape can provide:

  • Less mowing and lower ongoing maintenance
  • Seasonal beauty and curb appeal
  • Habitat for butterflies, birds, bees, and beneficial insects
  • Improved soil health and water absorption
  • Better drought resilience and little need for watering
  • A landscape that actually belongs in the Northeast

Your outdoor space is part of a larger ecosystem. It can look good and do good.

THE HOW

Thoughtful plans, tailored to your site

Every property is different. Sun, slope, drainage, soil, deer pressure, neighborhood expectations, and how you actually use the space all matter.

That’s why we start with your goals and create a practical plan for your reality.

Our Process

1. Information Collection
You send photos, rough measurements, and answers to a short questionnaire.

2. Complimentary One-Hour Consultation
We discuss your property, priorities, style preferences, budget, limitations, and possible solutions.

More consulting hours are always available for $50/hour.

3. Custom Design Plan
After your free consultation, you’ll receive a clear, personalized plan with layout concepts, plant recommendations, lawn-removal strategy, phased installation options, maintenance guidance, and DIY or contractor-ready instructions.

Custom design plans start at $275. Most projects range from $275–$695 depending on scope.

4. Build at Your Pace
Install it yourself, hire local help, or do it in phases over time.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

“I’m so grateful to Lazy Landscapes for showing me what my lawn could become. I had no idea how much life my tiny yard could support! Now my daughter loves watching the butterflies and I get to spend less time on lawn chores.”

About Lazy Landscapes

Lazy Landscapes is a Vermont-based landscape consulting practice focused on helping New England homeowners reduce lawn, support native ecosystems, and create spaces that are both beautiful and practical to maintain. Rooted in permaculture design principles, each plan is tailored to the specific conditions of the site and the way the space is actually used.

We believe most lawns can be thoughtfully reduced or replaced without sacrificing curb appeal. Whether you need open space for daily use or are ready to transition toward a more natural, low-maintenance landscape, we offer realistic, phased approaches that work with your goals, budget, and tolerance for upkeep.

All consultations begin with a questionnaire to understand how you use your space, what matters most to you, and what level of maintenance feels sustainable, so that every recommendation is grounded in real life, not just ideals.

We serve the Northeastern USA remotely, with installation and maintenance services available in Southern Vermont and Western Massachusetts.
